Secretary of State Kurt S. Browning was named Florida’s Secretary of State by Governor Rick Scott in January 2011. He also served as Secretary of State under the previous administration from December of 2006 until April of 2010.
Before coming to the Department of State, Secretary Browning spent 26 years serving as the Supervisor of Elections for Pasco County where he was involved in Florida’s elections community through service as the President of the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections; as a member of Governor Jeb Bush's Task Force on Election Procedures, Standards and Technology; and as a member of the State Planning Committee for the Help America Vote Act.
Secretary Browning is a native Floridian, and received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a master's degree in Public Administration from the University of South Florida.
